Classes
As your child grows up at Pat’s School of Dance, she/he will be carefully placed each year – at Pat’s discretion- in a class where she/he will progress the fastest and learn the most. Teacher’s review student’s progress continuously.
The 2009-2010 dance year classes are scheduled to start on August 10 and run through the June 2010 dance recitals. You can call NOW to be put on a call back list for this summer 2010. Call backs will be placed in new classes first, before open registration which starts on July 20th, 2009.
2 Year Old Dance Movement Class – An introduction to the world of dance using music, singing, props, stories and creativity to activate the imagination. The class will increase body awareness, enhance socialization skills and will begin the love affair with dance at the earliest age! Ballet Shoes.
Pre-School Classes (Age 3 & 4) -These students begin class in Tap Shoes and will end the class with Beginnings Of Ballet. There is a strong emphasis on musical awareness through Rhythm, Seqencing and Memory Skills. Tap Dance will be learned in conjuction with Song and Dance Routines. These personality routines help the young student to learn animation, a learned trait that will contribute to stage presence as the dance student matures. Performs 3 times in June Recitals.
When a student enters Kindergarten in the fall it is time to move forward to either Tap/Jazz Combination Class or Classical Ballet Class. Discounts are offered to students that study all 3 forms of Traditional Dance Training.
45 Minute Tap/Jazz Combination Class (Age 5 – 18)- These classes place a huge emphasis on Rhythm, Timing, Flexability, Strength, Memory and Large Motor Skills. Tap Dance and Jazz Dance combinations are taught in a dance routine format that the student will perform during the Recital Performance in June. On stage 3 times.
1 Hour Tap/Jazz Combination Class (Advanced Dancers)- Emphasis during Tap is placed on the clarity and strength of the syncopated tap sounds. At this level large motor skills have become second nature and the student learns to do pronounced extensions through arm and leg extremities while dancing. The jazz portion of class utilizes the classical ballet training through advanced stretch and various turns, including but not limited to, complex traveling combinations, pirouettes and body isolations. All students studying Tap/Jazz at the 1 hour class level are also Ballet or Performing Arts students. On stage 3 times.
1 Hour Ballet Class (Age 5 – 18)- Technique begins at the barre; emphasising posture, turn-out, terminology and flexability. Center Floor includes pirouettes, chainee turns, tour jetes and other staples of the formal ballet class. Ballet combinations for recital choreography wrap up the hour class.
1 Hour Pointe Class (Invitation By Teacher To Advanced Students)- All of the above and an emphasis on additional ankle strengthening for pull up to pointe.
NEW FOR 2009
Recreational Hip Hop (K – 18) – Choreographed to age appropriate music; this class will offer a variety of movement and dance instruction for large motor skill development and new age music rhythm appreciation.
Advanced Placement Hip Hop (an addional class for students currently studying Tap/Jazz)
Saturday Birthday Party Class (starting at Age 4)- Do not need to be a student at Pat’s School of Dance to book a Birthday Party Class. Costume Dress-Up will be offered at an additional charge. Some themes to choose from would be Disco, Line Dancing, Hip Hop, Hula and Princess Ballet. Refreshments and serving them are the resposibility of the parent.
